About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead adoption of a proactive, quality-first approach across Engineering
- Embed consistent testing standards and shift-left practices across teams
- Coach teams in applying quality processes across different products and delivery contexts
- Implement test strategies, plans and coverage aligned to delivery objectives
- Translate requirements and user stories into executable test cases and scripts
- Develop and maintain automated test suites using Selenium, Cypress, Playwright or equivalent tools
- Embed automated testing within CI/CD pipelines to support DevSecOps delivery
- Support functional, integration, regression, system and acceptance testing
- Identify, manage and track defects through resolution
- Provide test reporting, quality metrics and evidence for release decisions
- Contribute to environment readiness, test data management and controlled release processes
- Collaborate in Agile sprint planning, refinement, reviews and retrospectives
- Shape quality engineering processes, frameworks, standards and controls across the organisation
- Mentor and advise delivery teams on modern quality engineering principles
- Help develop future quality engineering capability, including potential recruitment and leadership of a dedicated team
Requirements
What you’ll need- Demonstrable experience defining, scaling and continuously improving quality engineering processes, standards and governance across multiple engineering teams
- Strong background in software testing, test automation and quality engineering within Agile delivery environments
- Experience designing and executing functional, integration, regression, system and acceptance testing, including defect investigation
- Hands-on experience with test automation tools such as Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, JUnit, pytest, Cucumber or similar
- Experience with API and UI testing
- Experience building and maintaining automated test frameworks and reusable test assets
- Experience managing test data
- Familiarity with integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines
- Awareness of quality gates, release assurance and modern development practices
- Experience working with customers in the UK defence or central government sectors
- Experience implementing shift-left strategies within complex software engineering projects
- Experience testing APIs, Java/JavaScript-based systems, and cloud or containerised environments
- Awareness of non-functional testing approaches, including performance, resilience, accessibility and security testing
- Experience producing test evidence and assurance artefacts suitable for controlled or regulated environments
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain SC security clearance
- Willingness to travel to the Horsham office approximately two days per month and occasionally to customer sites across the UK
