About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Lead and supervise the accounting team and daily accounting operations
  • Manage month-end and year-end close and ensure accurate financial reporting
  • Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements and budget-to-actual results
  • Oversee project accounting, WIP, revenue recognition, project profitability, and billing
  • Partner with Project Managers to resolve billing, collections, and project financial issues
  • Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, cash management, and reconciliations
  • Develop cash flow forecasts and monitor working capital and liquidity
  • Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning with the CFO
  • Coordinate annual audits, tax preparation, and government/FAR compliance activities
  • Maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies and procedures
  • Serve as the firm's Deltek Vantagepoint champion, improving reporting, workflows, automation, and system utilization
  • Mentor and develop accounting staff and promote a culture of continuous improvement

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 8–12+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • 3–5 years in a Controller or Accounting Manager role
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, project accounting, and internal controls
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel for business as needed
  • Authorization to work in the United States
  • CPA designation preferred
  • Experience in architecture, engineering, environmental consulting, or other project-based professional services preferred
  • Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint or Deltek Vision preferred
  • Experience with government contracts and FAR overhead rates preferred
  • Experience with financial dashboards, business intelligence, or accounting automation preferred
