About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform independent wetland delineations and assessments
  • Conduct vernal pool surveys, rare species surveys, wildlife habitat assessments, and function and values assessments
  • Support ecological sciences and energy services practice teams on public and private projects
  • Support multiple projects simultaneously
  • Represent the company at public meetings, workshops, and meetings with federal, state, and local agencies and other stakeholders during permit application review
  • Assist in preparing technical reports and federal, state, and local environmental permit applications in New England and New York
  • Perform project site inspections, construction oversight, and regulatory compliance evaluations on energy transmission, transportation, and other construction projects
  • Perform physically demanding fieldwork in challenging environments and weather conditions
  • Travel locally and regionally, including infrequent overnight travel

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 2 to 5+ years of demonstrated experience working in environmental management, regulatory compliance, environmental consulting or similar professional work
  • Ability to independently perform ecological field surveys including wetland delineation, vernal pool surveys, wildlife habitat evaluations, and soil classification and assessment
  • BS degree in Ecology, Wetland Ecology, Wildlife Biology, Soil Science or a closely related natural resource science degree
  • Understanding of federal, state and local environmental statutes and regulations in Massachusetts
  • Superior writing and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability to work productively on multiple projects simultaneously as part of a multidisciplinary project team
  • Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Working knowledge of GIS and GPS survey
  • Experience with preparation of permit applications associated with the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act and Municipal Wetlands Protection Bylaws
  • Valid driver’s license, proper insurance and registration for business travel
  • All necessary paperwork to work in the USA
  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods of time
  • Ability to work in challenging environments and weather conditions
  • Ability to travel via car for an extended period of time
  • Local and regional travel, including infrequent overnight travel may be required
  • Registration as a Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) or Professional Wetland Scientist In Training (PWIT), wetland scientist certification (CWS), Certified Wildlife Biologist (CWB), or Certified Professional in Erosion and Sedimentation Control (CPESC) is preferred
