About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Take technical ownership of data flows, applications, automated controls and reporting solutions across the energy trade lifecycle.
- Automate settlement processes across power, gas, carbon, BESS and ancillary services.
- Build and improve applications and automated reporting for position monitoring, P&L, gross margin analysis and Commercial Finance.
- Define data requirements, collaborate with Data Architecture to make data available in Microsoft Fabric, and build Python applications and analytical tools.
- Support integration between Aligne (ETRM), Microsoft Fabric, external market operators and internal systems.
- Develop automated reconciliation, validation and exception-management tools.
- Replace spreadsheet-based processes with scalable applications, dashboards and analytical tools.
- Design reliable applications and data pipelines with monitoring, error handling, controls and recovery processes.
- Apply Git-based version control, testing, code review, documentation and deployment practices.
- Develop understanding of TTEP’s trading, operational and settlement processes and relevant GB energy market arrangements.
- Collaborate with Settlements, Commercial Finance, Trading, Quantitative Analytics, IT, Data Architecture and external technical providers.
- Support credit exposure, collateral monitoring and wider Commercial Finance analytics.
- Contribute to Trading tools and analytical applications alongside Trading and Quantitative Analytics teams.
Requirements
What you’ll need- Strong proficiency in Python and SQL, with experience working with databases and large datasets.
- Strong working knowledge of Git/GitHub and modern software development practices, including testing, code review and documentation.
- Experience developing production-quality software, APIs, data pipelines and system integrations.
- Experience delivering medium or large-scale software, data or analytical projects from requirements through to implementation.
- Experience building solutions that support business-critical or operational processes.
- Experience handling time-series, metering, transactional, financial or other complex operational datasets.
- Familiarity with energy markets (power/gas) or power settlement rules (e.g. Elexon, BSC) is desirable.
- Experience with Azure / Microsoft Fabric is desirable.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Commercial curiosity and interest in understanding the full energy trade lifecycle.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to collaborate across Commercial Finance, Trading, Quantitative Analytics, IT, Data Architecture and third-party software providers.
- Proactive, self-starting approach and ability to take ownership through implementation and ongoing improvement.
- Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Data Science, Quantitative Finance or another highly analytical discipline.
