About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design and continuously refine SAMU operational workflows, controls, and reporting frameworks
  • Provide senior operational oversight across defaulted and higher-risk commercial lending portfolios
  • Establish governance routines for escalation, decision-making, and stakeholder alignment
  • Oversee complex legal action and enforcement files, coordinating with external counsel and internal partners
  • Ensure accurate credit classification, impairment recognition, and default reporting under IFRS 9 and applicable regulatory guidance
  • Identify operational, regulatory, and control risks and assess impacts to capital, financial reporting, and compliance
  • Partner with Risk, Finance, and Compliance to strengthen controls, documentation, and audit readiness
  • Implement SAMU-related credit, remedial, and restructuring policies
  • Lead sustainable solutions for systemic gaps, inefficiencies, and control weaknesses
  • Use data, trend analysis, and portfolio insights to recommend process, governance, and reporting enhancements
  • Advise senior leadership and serve as an escalation point for SAMU operations
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with Relationship Management, Credit Risk, Legal, Finance, and Operations
  • Translate complex operational and risk considerations into actionable insights for senior stakeholders

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of commercial mortgage lending, credit risk, or restructuring experience
  • Business degree or related discipline, similar professional designation, or equivalent work experience
  • Strong working knowledge of mortgage enforcement remedies and foreclosure processes across Canada
  • Proficient credit analysis, financial modeling, and problem-solving skills
  • Technical understanding of secured lending, commercial real estate markets, and end-to-end credit processes
  • Developed organizational and time-management skills; ability to manage competing priorities under tight timelines
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-intensity, and evolving environment
  • Ability to work independently with sound judgment and accountability
  • Excellent presentation and professional communication skills with Senior Management and other stakeholders
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and credit check
