About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the design and delivery of one area of the Product Journey Engine platform
- Work from the runtime specification with the Chief Architect
- Own contracts between the engine and host and with the Designer, including versioning and the cost of breaking them
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues across the engine/host boundary
- Own the automated testing story for the area
- Translate requirements and specifications into designs and JIRA stories
- Challenge specifications when they are wrong or incomplete
- Mentor other developers and participate in code reviews
- Journey Engine: lead a .NET runtime cross-compiled to WebAssembly and embedded in a TypeScript application
- POS Host Runtime: lead a TypeScript applet running journeys inside a third-party ePOS solution, driving peripherals, handling suspend/resume, and delivering results to the till basket exactly once
Requirements
What you’ll need- Post-secondary education in Computer Science or Software Engineering
- Substantial experience leading the delivery of a non-trivial component or service, end to end
- Strong in C#/.NET or TypeScript, with working ability or willingness to learn the other
- Experience with JSON, JSON Schema and contract-driven design between components
- Comfortable owning automated testing of their own work
- Comfortable building from a written specification and identifying incorrect or incomplete specifications
- Understanding of performance, traceability, and security as first-class concerns
- Experience building reusable libraries or SDKs consumed by others
- Experience with Git workflows and CI/CD pipelines, including Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions
- Able to meet the security clearance requirements of the target Escher client
- Journey Engine applicants: experience with a workflow engine, rules engine, state machine, or similar execution runtime; deterministic evaluation, immutability and idempotency; .NET in constrained environments; sandboxing user-authored expressions or scripts; POS, payments, or transactional systems experience
- POS Host Runtime applicants: experience architecting large multi-component JavaScript/HTML applications; embedded or hosted JavaScript applications; browser platform knowledge; integrating hardware peripherals or device services from a browser or embedded runtime
- .NET/C#/.NET Core and TypeScript/JavaScript
- Experience with .NET/JavaScript interoperability is a plus
- Journey Engine: WebAssembly experience is a strong plus but not required
- POS Host Runtime: exposure to WebAssembly or other compiled-to-browser runtimes; React and Material Design are a plus
