About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Build and contribute across Etsy’s recommendations stack, including application interfaces, back-end technologies, and machine learning technologies
Develop with Python, MySQL, Scala, Vertica, PySpark, Google Cloud Platform, and Airflow
Work cross-functionally with machine learning infrastructure, data science, search experience, and other engineering teams
Participate in design, prioritization, and implementation
Deploy machine learning models to production, including application development for features when needed
Provide detailed and constructive design and code reviews
Improve ranking and suggestions of localized results through machine learning algorithms
Create workflows and pipelines that transform data into appropriate buyer results
Collaborate with engineers, machine learning scientists, product managers, data scientists, designers, and product-facing engineers and managers

Requirements

What you’ll need

Successful track record applying machine learning techniques to real-world problems
Experience in deep learning, multi-modal learning, reinforcement learning, or similar fields
Hands-on experience training, deploying, monitoring, debugging, and iterating on production machine learning systems in search, recommendation, and/or advertising systems
Production experience developing large-scale machine learning systems in Python, Scala, PyTorch, TensorFlow, or similar languages
Ability to write understandable and testable code
Ability to write and manipulate data at large scale with maintainability in mind
M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science or related engineering fields
At least two years of practical machine learning experience
Candidates should be within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn office, or may be considered remotely case-by-case with occasional office travel
Ability to work in the United States; visa sponsorship may be limited to certain roles and skills
