About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead the direction and implementation of solutions to moderately complex, loosely scoped problems aligned with team goals
- Deliver projects independently or by leading teammates
- Enable other engineers on the team to be successful
- Collaborate with Engineers, Product Managers, Designers, cross-functional teams, and business partners
- Develop solutions that help sellers run their businesses and remain competitive
- Contribute across the web application stack, from front-end interfaces to back-end technologies
- Develop and maintain critical-path product services
- Provide detailed and constructive design and code reviews
- Gain insights through research, data analysis, and A/B testing
- Push code to production using continuous deployment systems
- Build and maintain observability and test tooling, including logging, monitoring, distributed tracing, alerting, and offline test tools for search and recommendation systems
- Practice continuous learning and agile delivery
- Work collaboratively to tackle well-scoped problems, deliver work to end users, and contribute to team goals
- Reduce failure scenarios and identify edge cases through technical planning
Requirements
What you’ll need- More than 5+ years of experience
- Experience in information retrieval systems
- Ability to write high-performance, production-quality code
- Experience operating within a large codebase
- Understanding of building robust services
- Flexibility with different programming languages and cloud-native environments
- Strong collaboration and communication skills
- Ability to lead, advise on, and implement solutions to loosely scoped problems
- Ability to write understandable, testable, maintainable code
- Understanding of the implications of work on end users and the aspects of running a large-scale website
- Strong communication adaptable to technical and non-technical audiences
- Curiosity and ability to learn autonomously
- Experience working with AI Agents and related tools, such as MCP servers and skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently on well-scoped problems
- Must be within commutable distance of Etsy’s Mexico Office or willing to travel occasionally to the office
- Visa sponsorship may be limited to certain roles and skills
