About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Report to the Head of the Navigation Systems Definition Section
- Contribute to, lead and/or provide expert technical support to ESA projects, programmes and studies in positioning, navigation, timing and geolocation for Earth and space applications
- Support definition, design and development phases of PNT system evolutions, including multilayer systems and end-to-end architectures
- Support resilient and governmental satellite systems spanning PNT, Earth observation and telecommunications
- Define, design and evolve ESA and EU navigation/geolocation projects and programmes, including Galileo, LEO-PNT, EGNOS, Opstar, ERS, deep-space PNT and future demonstrators
- Participate in or lead feasibility studies, project reviews and procurement proposal evaluations
- Define and manage internal R&D activities and initiate activities addressing long- and short-term needs
- Contribute to technology development requirements and work plans for Agency technology programmes
- Foster multidisciplinary application areas and innovative system architectures
- Define, initiate, implement and/or manage laboratory activities
- Monitor scientific and technology trends and maintain state-of-the-art expertise
- Disseminate activity results and transfer knowledge across the Agency
- Support or lead other activities within the area of competence
Requirements
What you’ll need- A master's degree in telecommunications, electronics, aerospace engineering or similar is required
- Solid expertise and several years of professional experience in several relevant technical areas
- General background and specific experience in the technical domains covered by the position
- Understanding of related technologies, R&D trends and the industrial landscape
- Project support experience in a relevant domain
- Experience with laboratory or field testing of relevant technical equipment
- Experience managing and monitoring industrial activities, including participation in reviews
- Expertise in GNSS/PNT systems, architecture, signals, performance, algorithms, receiver techniques, payload system architecture and related technologies
- Expertise in Galileo PRS and non-PRS, LEO-PNT, deep-space navigation, RFI monitoring and geolocation, governmental satellite systems, EO/SAR satellite systems, telecommunications satellite systems, fused PNT, integrated PNT/telecom/remote sensing, and signal processing
- Experience working in international and multidisciplinary environments
- Applicants must be eligible to access information, technology and hardware subject to European or US export controls and sanctions regulations
- Applicants must be eligible to acquire security clearance through their national security administrations
- Good knowledge of English or French is required
- Knowledge of another Member State language is an asset
