About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist with transmission system studies and project development
- Develop and maintain power system study models
- Collect and review forecast loads, equipment ratings, impedances, contingency sets, protection and control parameters, and system topology
- Support steady-state, stability, short-circuit, and EMT analyses
- Prepare study scopes and verify technical information and models
- Apply corporate planning standards and NERC, NPCC, and ISO-NE reliability standards and criteria
- Test solution alternatives to mitigate significant adverse impacts
- Interface with ISO-NE staff and internal engineering, planning, asset management, siting, environmental, permitting, and operations teams
- Document study results in reports
- Support study updates and presentations to regulatory agencies, customers, and affected parties
- Automate routine study processes using transmission analysis tools
- Communicate analysis results verbally and in writing
- Assist with development of training modules
- Prepare technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches
- Conduct engineering studies and non-routine engineering projects with increasing independence
- Maintain accurate records and files
- Support company goals and represent the company positively and professionally
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, focus in Power Systems
- 0-3 years related experience required
- Relevant experience in planning, design, and/or operations related to transmission lines and substation facilities
- Knowledge of power system planning
- Knowledge of power system transmission analysis tools such as PSSE, TARA, EMS, ASPEN, PSCAD, or similar analysis software
- Knowledge of a programming language such as Python
- Knowledge of photovoltaic solar, electric vehicles, and battery technologies
- Knowledge of electrical theory as applied to planning an electric power supply system
- Knowledge of National, State, and other planning standards and reliability criteria
- Must be available to work emergency restoration assignments as required
- Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary
- A valid driver’s license is required
- Applicants requiring visa sponsorship to start employment with Eversource will not be considered
