About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Develop distribution system power flow models using Synergi and PSCAD
- Study the interconnection of generation and storage using Eversource System Planning Guides
- Assess proposed Distributed Energy Resource integration solutions and impacts on distribution and ISO-NE regional systems
- Prepare documentation for the ISO-NE interconnection process
- Review and analyze distribution interconnection requests within the assigned Area Work Center
- Review and prepare Pre-Application Reports
- Support application review and feasibility assessments for interconnection queue requests
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to determine planning needs and proposed plans
- Verify technical feasibility and soundness of proposed plans
- Develop design solutions and alternative strategies to mitigate assessment criteria violations
- Identify technical issues and engineer alternative solutions for DER interconnections
- Apply distribution planning standards and federal, state, and local regulations
- Own projects and maintain accountability for project schedules
- Participate in customer calls to explain and defend technical findings
- Provide weekly updates on project deliverables
- Prepare and present Project Authorization Forms and other internal authorization documents
- Represent the company and department on relevant industry committees
- Maintain the approved inverter list by auditing UL certifications
- Deliver written and verbal technical analyses and action plans
- Support emergency storm response efforts during severe weather or system outages
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a closely related field
- 3+ years of professional power systems experience
- Electric utility background strongly preferred
- Deep understanding of distributed generation, energy storage, reliability, load flow, flicker, stability, short circuit, voltage regulation, transients, power factor, and losses
- Knowledge and experience with power system modeling and simulation software for steady-state power flow, voltage, short circuit, stability, and electromagnetic transients
- Technical comprehension of power delivery system parameters and functions, power industry fundamentals, practices, and standards
- Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, presentation, negotiation, and persuasion skills
- Commitment to adhering to corporate Codes of Conduct, Business Ethics, Environmental, and Diversity Policies
- Valid driver’s license required
- Must be available for emergency restoration assignments
- Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary
- Applicants requiring visa sponsorship to start employment with Eversource will not be considered
- Preferred: Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license
