About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Supervise, assign, prioritize, and direct Protection & Controls Engineering personnel
  • Lead engineering and design activities for protective relays and associated transmission and distribution systems
  • Evaluate protection system operations and failures and determine appropriate resolutions
  • Support operations during unplanned maintenance
  • Share accountability for planning, developing, and designing the protection-system asset management plan
  • Ensure projects align with Eversource P&C Engineering goals and objectives
  • Ensure personnel follow company standards and procedures for protection and controls designs and relay settings
  • Develop employees through performance management, coaching, and rotational assignments
  • Develop preliminary engineering designs and design standards
  • Evaluate and select system technology and equipment
  • Develop infrastructure strategy, operating philosophy, and technical basis for asset renewal decisions
  • Provide design guidance and protection-system performance details for system planning studies
  • Review and provide guidance for transmission and distribution interconnection requests
  • Collaborate with Eversource Engineering groups
  • Provide technical support and direction during normal and emergency situations
  • Lead root-cause analysis and corrective-action development and implementation
  • Work with Asset Management on project justification and financial rationing
  • Support standards and procedures for transmission and distribution system operation and maintenance
  • Develop, review, and periodically update control center operating procedures
  • Assume Project Manager responsibilities as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering required
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electric utility industry
  • Strong background in protection engineering
  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Experience with IEC 61850 preferred
  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignments as required
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary
  • Applicants requiring visa sponsorship to start employment with Eversource will not be considered
