About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Establish, define, and administer regulatory compliance and incident prevention activities for employee, contractor, and public safety
  • Promote safe work practices and safe work environments across Electric, Gas, Fleet, Warehouse, and other Operations functions within the assigned region
  • Maintain working relationships with operating personnel and advise managers and supervisors on occupational safety
  • Train, coach, and perform safety observations for a dynamic, multi-discipline workforce
  • Observe workplace behaviors and conditions, coach employees, and provide feedback to management and employees
  • Investigate incidents using the incident analysis process and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations
  • Follow up on incident improvement plans and assist management in preventing recurrence
  • Develop and deliver safety training in partnership with the Training Department
  • Advise management on hazard elimination, problem solving, decision making, and recurring safety meetings
  • Develop incident prevention and regulatory compliance programs
  • Inspect field work locations and Company properties for safe work environments
  • Develop relationships with customers throughout the organization
  • Develop, revise, and implement work practices, procedures, and safety rules
  • Provide emergency support, including mutual aid contractor onboarding and field safety support

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Safety or related discipline or equivalent experience
  • 3–5 years’ experience in operational activities
  • Thorough understanding of the Company’s safety rules
  • Knowledge of Electric Overhead, Underground, Substation, Distribution, Supply, and System Operations practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of construction site safety
  • Knowledge of Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Hampshire and federal OSHA and DOT regulations and State Departments of Public Safety requirements for the electric and gas industries
  • Additional safety-related training programs and certifications such as National Safety Council’s Advanced Safety Certificate, ASP, or CSP preferred
  • Must be available for emergency restoration assignments
  • Must be available to travel primarily within MA/CT/NH and occasionally beyond the assigned region
  • Must be available for rotating on-call work
  • Subject to applicable pre-assignment and random drug testing
