About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Plan, coordinate, and perform engineering assignments involving design and implementation of wireless SCADA data telecommunications systems
  • Design, implement, and operate wireless SCADA data telecommunications systems supporting Eversource's Electric operations
  • Support field construction and maintenance of wireless SCADA data telecommunications assets and infrastructure, including digital microwave, mobile and fixed wireless networks, and paging systems
  • Analyze wireless SCADA data communication systems to enhance and troubleshoot SCADA data applications
  • Contribute to configuration and specification of SCADA wireless telecom equipment and interfaces to field RTU devices
  • Troubleshoot distribution-system events involving mis-operated field-device communications or impacts to remote operations
  • Apply requirements and standards from IEEE, IEC, NERC, and other industry and regulatory organizations
  • Collaborate with senior staff, Field Communications, and telecommunications engineering staff to select technologies and build distribution automation communications networks
  • Support restoration activity during emergency storm assignments
  • Work in industrial and office environments; travel throughout the service territory 20% of the time

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or related discipline
  • At least five (5) years of experience in the design, implementation and support of wireless SCADA data telecommunications systems
  • General understanding of the design, specification, and installation of wireless SCADA data telecommunications systems over radio, cellular, and fiber
  • Basic understanding of SCADA engineering concepts, particularly DNP 3.0 protocol
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Strong ability to coordinate with a team to design and build out a project
  • Experience with wireless SCADA data telecommunications infrastructure within a utility application using DNP 3.0 protocol is preferred
  • Understanding of electric utility systems is strongly preferred
  • Must be available to work emergency storm assignment as required
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary
  • Travel throughout the service territory is required 20% of the time
  • Ability to identify and address key issues and concerns in a complex and consistently evolving environment
