About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Plan, coordinate, and perform engineering assignments for wireless telecommunication systems
- Design, implement, and operate wireless telecommunication systems supporting Eversource’s Electric and Gas operations
- Ensure wireless networks are optimally configured for voice and data applications
- Collaborate with senior staff to select wireless communications technologies, products, and services for projects
- Collaborate with Field Communications to troubleshoot and build the wireless network
- Contribute to planning, engineering, design, and support of the company’s wireless telecommunications system
- Support field construction and maintenance of wireless telecommunications assets and infrastructure, including digital microwave, mobile and fixed wireless networks, paging systems and subsystems
- Model wireless communication systems using company-issued software to predict voice and data performance
- Contribute to configuration and specification of wireless telecom equipment and hardware
- Troubleshoot distribution-system events involving mis-operated field-device communications or impacted remote operations
- Apply industry and regulatory requirements and standards, including FCC and IEEE
- Support emergency restoration activity and respond to storm assignments as required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or related discipline
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the design, implementation and support of wireless telecommunications systems
- Comprehensive understanding of the design, specification, and installation of wireless telecommunications systems, such as microwave, radio, cellular and telephone
- Basic understanding of SCADA engineering concepts, in particular DNP 3.0 protocol
- Strong communications and presentation skills
- Strong ability to coordinate with a team to design and build out a project
- Experience with the application of wireless telecommunications infrastructure for both voice and data applications
- Must be available to work emergency storm assignment as required
- Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary
- Travel throughout the service territory is required 50% of the time
- Ability to work in industrial and office environments, including climbing ladders, walking on uneven surfaces, exposure to outdoor elements, standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, writing and typing
- Ability to identify and address key issues and concerns in a complex and consistently evolving environment
- Applicants requiring visa sponsorship to start employment with Eversource will not be considered
- Master of Science degree in Engineering or MBA preferred
- Understanding of electric and gas utility systems strongly preferred
