Senior Engineer, ISO Policy and Economic Analysis, Transmission

About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Performs transmission engineering and economic analyses of the clean energy transition in New England
- Prepares and submits data, reports, presentations, and compliance filings regarding Eversource transmission projects to ISO New England
- Serves as a transmission engineering subject matter expert in state, regional, and federal forums
- Models the electricity sector and use of the transmission grid
- Monitors Eversource transmission projects and resource interconnections
- Develops and implements process improvements to streamline data collection and reporting
- Reviews key filings, including Transmission Cost Allocation applications
- Implements strategies to gain stakeholder support at NEPOOL Committees
- Performs power flow, economic capacity expansion, production cost, and probabilistic modeling analyses
- Oversees consultants and performs technical studies independently
- Interprets engineering study results for strategic insights and guidance
- Provides subject matter expertise to state procurement evaluation teams
- Analyzes federal, regional, and state policy proposals and their impact on Eversource and customers
- Develops recommended policy positions and works with internal stakeholders to reach consensus
- Develops analytical products, visualizations, research, and advocacy materials
- Scrutinizes technical reports on clean energy resources’ operational and economic impacts
- Represents Eversource on regional and national advisory committees
- May serve as an expert witness in regulatory proceedings
- Leads internal stakeholder teams and supports external outreach and advocacy
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering required
- 5 to 8 years of related experience
- Ability to perform technical engineering analysis using PSS/E and TARA
- Ability to perform technical economic analysis using ProMod and PLEXOS
- Ability to write and edit computer programs that manage data flows into and output results from engineering and economic simulation models
- Understanding of state and federal utility industry regulation
- Experience and understanding with ISO/RTO processes and rules, particularly transmission planning, interconnection, and/or operations
- Understanding of economic theory and wholesale electricity markets
- Competency and proficiency in oral and written communications
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, strategic-thinking, and team-building skills
- Technical knowledge of the New England transmission grid
- Must be available for emergency restoration assignments
- Must be available for approximately monthly travel between MA, CT, and NH
- Must be available for occasional travel outside the service area
