About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Review, plan, and coordinate land survey work within the assigned territory
- Lead and coordinate survey activities of staff, field crews, and vendors
- Serve as the Subject Matter Expert and lead all survey tasks
- Review team-member work and vendor activity
- Prepare RFPs and hire vendors from the approved vendor list
- Schedule, review, and approve vendor deliverables and invoices with increased dollar-level approval responsibility
- Direct and oversee survey work performed by support staff and vendor crews
- Attend project meetings and provide oversight of survey-related tasks
- Advocate for the survey department and uphold quality and integrity in daily tasks
- Provide reports and budget projections as requested
- Manage internal and external survey work within the assigned territory
- Provide direction and training on utility-specific survey work to vendors
- Ensure vendor work complies with scope, budget, and schedule
- Review survey requests and determine appropriate resources
- Act as point of contact for internal and external customers
- Provide project status updates throughout survey-related phases
- Perform calculations, research, field, and office tasks to locate company property boundaries and rights of way accurately
- Retain required paperwork and vendor deliverables
- Serve as SME to peers and business partners
- Perform limited real estate functions, including field investigations and reports
- Respond to emergency restoration assignments outside normal responsibilities, hours, or location when required
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of five (5) or more years of progressive field and office experience associated with all aspects of land surveying
- Demonstrated high standard of professional technical competence
- Thorough knowledge of land surveying principles, practices, methods, techniques, and latest instruments
- Knowledge of civil engineering principles and terminology, construction methods, engineering plans, and specifications
- Thorough knowledge of safety rules
- Knowledge of land surveying, mapping, legal documents, and real estate terms
- Basic understanding of property law
- Knowledge of state statutes and regulations governing surveying and mapping, including subdivision Land Court (MA only) and AUL areas
- Strong background in boundary surveying
- Ability to write clearly and concisely
- Ability to provide customer service meeting or exceeding company standards
- Ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects and assignments simultaneously
- Ability to coordinate groups and work independently
- AutoCAD experience required; Civil 3D experience preferred
- Experience with Total Stations, Data Collectors, GPS equipment, and related software
- Licensed Land Surveyor preferred
- Valid driver’s license required
- Must be available for emergency storm assignments
- Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary
- Must be able to work up to five days in the office if needed or if policy changes
