About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Supervise the 24/7 Dispatch System Operations Center staff
  • Plan, coordinate, direct and supervise switching and tagging activities
  • Write, check and issue clearances and permissions
  • Monitor loads, voltages, SCADA, substations and system alarms
  • Supervise dispatch of Eversource personnel to outage, trouble and emergency calls
  • Coordinate activities with Electric Service, Electric Field Operations and other Eversource departments
  • Serve as switching director when assigned
  • Receive and analyze OMS outage and non-outage events and trouble calls; initiate corrective action and dispatch personnel
  • Direct corrective action and communicate system problems and restoration progress to relevant personnel
  • Support emergency disaster plans and regional storm restoration
  • Prepare, disseminate and maintain regional operations center records and reports
  • Coordinate Eastern MA Black Start and emergency load shedding
  • Support the Manager and/or Senior Supervisor with shift workload, system configurations and risk preparation
  • Train new dispatchers, including OMS instruction and switching and tagging procedures
  • Operate PC-based and mainframe applications
  • Coordinate dispatch activities with Eversource personnel and external utilities, government agencies and other parties
  • Plan and schedule shift coverage while ensuring safe, reliable and cost-controlled distribution system operations
  • Review distribution system events and ensure proper reporting
  • Communicate updated policies and procedures and ensure compliance
  • Supervise safe and efficient restoration of distribution system outages

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration or related discipline plus five (5) years of qualifying experience; OR Associate degree in Engineering, Business Administration or related discipline plus seven (7) years of qualifying experience; OR minimum of nine (9) years of qualifying experience
  • Five (5) or more years of related electrical utility experience
  • Knowledge of utility Transmission and Distribution system design, operations, maintenance, construction principles and practices, safety standards and business processes
  • Planning and organizational skills, project and schedule management skills, including computerized trouble, work and materials management and scheduling tools
  • Thorough knowledge of switching and tagging procedures
  • Thorough knowledge of electric distribution system operations
  • Working knowledge of labor contracts
  • Knowledge of PC-based and mainframe applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Ability to function under stress of emergency situations for extended periods
  • Ability to communicate and work effectively with organizational levels and external parties
  • Ability to analyze electric distribution system problems and act accordingly
  • Ability to effectively supervise and direct the work of others
  • Must successfully pass required pre-employment assessments
  • Must be available for 24/7 shift rotation coverage
  • Must be available for emergency restoration assignments and travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary
