About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage multiple accounting teams or a single complex functional area
  • Oversee the full general ledger close cycle
  • Provide technical accounting leadership across a broad portfolio of responsibilities
  • Manage, coach, develop, and hold accounting personnel accountable for team outcomes
  • Align team priorities, resourcing, and workflows across managed groups
  • Review complex journal entries, reconciliations, and financial schedules
  • Serve as an escalation point for accounting questions and research complex or non-standard transactions
  • Build consensus on accounting approaches and resolve cross-team dependencies
  • Ensure close deliverables meet quality, accuracy, and timeliness standards
  • Oversee SOX documentation and testing and coordinate with internal audit
  • Serve as primary management contact for external auditors
  • Identify and remediate control weaknesses
  • Lead close process improvement initiatives, automation, standardization, and efficiency gains
  • Partner with the Controller, FP&A, tax, legal, and operational teams
  • Support ERP enhancements and integrations with operational data sources
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Typically, 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3+ years managing managers or multiple accounting teams, or equivalent work experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; Master's degree or MBA a plus
  • CPA license strongly preferred
  • Experience in a public company environment with direct Big 4 audit coordination
  • Prior experience leading accounting system implementation or improvement projects
  • Track record of developing accounting managers and building high-performing accounting teams
  • Equivalent education or training in accounting, finance, or a related field accepted in lieu of a formal degree
  • Strong technical knowledge of US GAAP, including ASC 360, ASC 842, and financial close
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple accounting teams, develop managers, and drive cross-team accountability in a close-cycle environment
  • Deep experience with SOX 404 compliance, including control design, documentation, testing, and remediation
  • Proficiency in ERP systems such as NetSuite and strong data analysis skills
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills; ability to build consensus across teams and cross-functional partners
  • Up to 15% travel may be required
