About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Collaborate with developers, strategists, designers, and project managers
  • Develop custom WordPress plugins and themes and configure WordPress websites
  • Select, configure, and debug WordPress plugins
  • Maintain WordPress sites by upgrading core software and plugins and preventing regressions
  • Create documentation
  • Contribute to and participate in the open-source community

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • At least 5 years of experience working with WordPress
  • Ability to create WordPress themes and plugins following best practices
  • Experience building modern WordPress sites using the block editor, including theme.json and hybrid themes; experience launching sites with these technologies
  • Experience working with a team and using a standardized development workflow
  • Experience using the Linux command line, Git, and Docker-based tools such as DDEV, Lando, or wp-env
  • Deep experience with block editor APIs, including writing custom blocks in React and custom plugins
  • Understanding of software development practices
  • Experience with managed hosts such as Pantheon or WordPress VIP is an asset
  • Expertise in HTML, PHP, CSS with SASS, and JavaScript
  • Knowledge of current WordPress ecosystem developments, especially Gutenberg
  • Experience using project management tools such as Redmine or Jira
  • Strong communication skills in both French and English; English is required
  • Availability during Montreal working hours for remote applicants
  • Proactive communication and exceptional self-management for remote work
  • Experience building accessible websites compliant with WCAG standards is an asset
  • Experience with Drupal or other web development platforms is an asset
  • Open-source contributions are an asset
  • Agency experience is a major asset
