About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design and deliver scalable, secure Java/Spring Boot services, APIs and integrations
  • Write maintainable production code and critically review AI-generated designs, code and tests
  • Champion clean architecture, sound design patterns, automated testing, peer review and coding standards
  • Own security, quality, performance and resilience of services, including production reliability
  • Diagnose production issues and improve observability, automation, CI/CD and operational tooling
  • Work with AWS Professional Services and Evri colleagues to understand design decisions, transfer knowledge and develop in-house capability
  • Lead technical discussions with Product, Delivery, Architecture, Testing and Operations
  • Mentor engineers through code reviews, pair programming, collaborative problem-solving and knowledge sharing
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, operational runbooks and handover knowledge
  • Help build internal engineering capability for the new platform
  • Establish engineering and operational practices supporting long-term platform growth
  • This is a hands-on technical leadership role with no direct line-management responsibility

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Significant commercial experience developing and supporting production-grade backend services
  • Strong hands-on Java and Spring Boot expertise, including API design, integrations, testing and maintainable service development
  • Sound understanding of distributed systems, software architecture, design patterns, security and scalability
  • Proven experience owning services end to end, including deployment, troubleshooting, incident resolution and ongoing improvement
  • Hands-on experience building, deploying and supporting production services on AWS
  • Proven track record of collaborative delivery using Agile and DevOps practices
  • Practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, monitoring, logging and observability tools
  • Strong technical judgement, including ability to evaluate AI-generated code and designs
  • Experience with AI coding tools
  • Strong communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills, including working effectively with external delivery partners
  • Commitment to mentoring, knowledge transfer and raising team standards
  • Curiosity about new engineering practices and confidence to improve software development and support
  • A degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
