About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead the Node sub-team's technical direction, architecture decisions, and code quality standards
Architect the backend platform, including service and API structure, asynchronous and real-time processing, rate limiting, resiliency, and relational/document data modeling
Document architecture decisions for stakeholders
Design and implement complex backend features using Node.js and TypeScript
Design and implement Next.js API routes and Node.js backend services
Define API designs and contracts, authentication/authorization, caching, messaging, and database access
Enable frontend and mobile teams to build on stable, well-documented interfaces
Lead code reviews and mentor junior engineers
Establish and enforce Node coding standards
Own backend performance optimization, testing strategy, and CI/CD pipeline governance
Ensure secure, HIPAA-compliant, high-availability services

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's degree in CS, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
7+ years of professional software development experience with primary backend expertise
Deep, demonstrable proficiency with Node.js, TypeScript, and Next.js (API routes) building production services and APIs
Strong relational and document database design experience
Experience deploying and operating services on a cloud platform; Azure preferred
Preferred: 10+ years of professional experience in backend or full-stack development
Preferred: Experience in healthcare technology, health insurance, or another regulated industry
Preferred: Experience with healthcare data standards (HL7 FHIR, X12, NCPDP) applied to data integration and API design
Preferred: Experience with real-time systems (WebSockets), event-driven architecture, GraphQL/tRPC, and monorepo tooling
Must reside in the Eastern or Central time zones
Must attend an in-person interview at the Dallas headquarters as a finalist
Must have a dedicated work area separate from other living areas and providing information privacy
Must be able to keep company sensitive documents secure
Must live where existing high-speed internet service is available
