About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Write scaffolding around code, including tests, documentation, deployment paths, and instrumentation
  • Shape solution scope with fellow engineers and a product manager
  • Turn repeated mistakes into guard-rails such as tests, checks, agent skills, or automation
  • Own the failure budget of shipped work, including what may break and what must not break
  • Find production root causes and implement lasting fixes
  • Review peers’ work
  • Improve the Automaton in-house software factory
  • Build and maintain backend services and data pipelines for the CVM Platform
  • Work with Kubernetes, microservices, Java and Python services, REST APIs, Kafka, Spark, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, and React

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Several years of production backend experience on the JVM (Java), including services and data pipelines at volume (Kafka, Spark or similar)
  • Use coding agents (Claude Code or similar) every day, at work or on personal projects
  • Built a workflow around coding agents beyond autocomplete, including skills, prompts, review loops, and automations
  • Owned a system end-to-end and can identify measurable improvements in reliability, cost, speed, or support tickets
  • Ability to make a case with working prototypes and clear reasoning
  • Some React experience is nice to have
  • Willingness to make frontend changes with or without coding agents
