About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Provide principal engineering delivery leadership, direction, decision authority and support to the programme or bid
Direct and manage the Engineering team to achieve programme schedule, financial, safety and quality targets
Ensure Engineering Processes are correctly applied according to company, legislative, regulatory and international standards
Lead and oversee engineering projects from initiation to completion, ensuring on-time, in-scope and on-budget delivery
Define project objectives, requirements and success criteria with stakeholders
Develop and maintain project plans, timelines and resource allocation
Build and manage high-performing engineering teams
Mentor and guide team members, provide technical guidance and remove obstacles
Set operational objectives and conduct performance evaluations
Coordinate engineering team competency, development, mobilisation and release with Functional Teams
Strengthen engineering capabilities and competencies
Act as primary contact between engineering teams and stakeholders, reporting project status, risks and issues
Collaborate with product/project managers and business leaders to prioritise deliverables
Build customer trust, credibility and collaboration
Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies
Address challenges and roadblocks affecting timelines or quality
Ensure high-quality engineering delivery and adherence to software and hardware development best practices
Implement and maintain quality assurance processes and testing methodologies
Close engineering delivery corrective actions and observations in a timely and complete manner
Foster continuous improvement and evaluate tools, processes and methodologies to enhance delivery

Requirements

What you’ll need

Chartered Engineer status, or equivalent
Excellent leadership, communication, stakeholder management, motivation and inter-personal skills
Strong leadership capability, with ability to build and sustain strong working relationships at all levels
Demonstrated ability to lead, manage, mentor and coach a diverse team
Systems and technical experience covering all aspects of the project and product lifecycle
Ability to deliver a strategy for the multi-disciplinary Engineering team
Proven record of on-budget, on-time delivery, whilst maximising margin and delighting the customer
Proven record of managing effective teams, tackling under performance, recognising success and developing talent
Experience and knowledge of whole systems engineering lifecycles for large complex systems
Technical/project experience in critical control systems engineering and/or safety critical systems
