About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Review and approve engineering drawings in accordance with BS8888 and company design standards
- Identify, assess and resolve drawing non-conformances, redline comments and documentation issues
- Amend and update existing engineering drawings and associated design documentation
- Support project lifecycle engineering activities relating to design documentation and configuration control
- Conduct tolerance and stack-up analysis to ensure manufacturability and fit-for-purpose designs
- Apply and review Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) principles
- Liaise with suppliers and internal stakeholders to resolve technical drawing queries
- Support engineering change activities and drawing release processes
- Ensure technical documentation reflects industry best practice and regulatory requirements
- Manage supplier technical requests
- Support simulations and engineering change activities
- Drive drawing quality improvements and documentation compliance
Requirements
What you’ll need- Mechanical Engineering HNC
- 3D CAD software knowledge such as SolidWorks or equivalent
- Proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Advanced English
- Proven experience as a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer or Principal-level engineer
- Strong background in engineering drawing review and approval
- Expert knowledge of BS8888
- Excellent understanding and practical application of GD&T
- Experience performing tolerance stack analysis
- Ability to interpret, amend and correct complex engineering drawings
- Experience supporting engineering projects within highly regulated industries, ideally defence, marine, aerospace or advanced manufacturing
- Strong stakeholder engagement and technical communication skills
- Experience in a similar position
- Minimum 2 days per week onsite in Barnstaple
- Must be eligible to obtain SC Clearance
- Candidates can commence work with BPSS clearance while SC clearance is processed
