About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Evaluate, structure, and recommend transactions using EDC’s range of guarantee and risk-transfer products
- Conduct comprehensive financial analysis of financial statements, cash flow, leverage, liquidity, and repayment capacity
- Analyze financial, industry, transactional, and qualitative information to assess and mitigate risk
- Structure and recommend new or existing facilities, guarantees, and related solutions
- Prepare underwriting assessments, risk analyses, recommendations, and approval documents
- Assess transactions and balance credit risk, policy objectives, portfolio considerations, and client outcomes
- Identify emerging risks, adverse trends, and financial deterioration; recommend mitigation measures or escalation
- Collaborate with Business Development, Portfolio Management, Product, Operations, and Risk Management teams
- Work with financial institutions, brokers, surety partners, and clients
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of underwriting quality, risk governance, and operational efficiency
- Promote knowledge sharing and collaboration
- Maintain a strong understanding of financial analysis, guarantee products, underwriting standards, portfolio risk management, the market, and EDC policies
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or accounting (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
- At least 7 years (Underwriter 18) or 10 years (Underwriter 19) of recent experience in commercial or corporate banking, surety underwriting, or transaction structuring
- Knowledge of commercial lending practices, common financing structures, and security/collateral
- Excellent credit analysis, risk assessment, and negotiation skills
- Candidates must meet government security requirements
- Preference will be given to candidates who are legally authorized to work in Canada at the time of application (Canadian citizens or permanent residents)
