About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Build and own features, components, and APIs end to end within a single system
  • Contribute to system design and architecture discussions
  • Build and maintain APIs used by internal teams and customers
  • Develop Go and Python-based microservices for data collection, processing, and querying
  • Ensure services meet production standards for latency, cost, and reliability
  • Build instrumentation to monitor service performance
  • Build and operate high-throughput data streaming pipelines
  • Improve pipeline scalability, robustness, and latency
  • Optimise databases and index performance
  • Work directly with analysts to turn practical product feedback into system changes
  • Iterate on product requests and identify conflicts with longer-term platform work
  • Partner with AI and frontend teams on cross-functional features
  • Contribute to deployment pipelines, service templates, observability, and engineering environments

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Applicants must be eligible to obtain UK security clearance
  • Applicants must be nationals of a NATO member state, Australia, or New Zealand
  • 2+ years of professional software engineering experience
  • Demonstrated ability to build and ship production-grade services
  • Experience owning features or components end to end within a larger system
  • Proficiency in building microservices using Go or Python, with ability to pick up the other quickly
  • Practical understanding of software engineering patterns
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Comfortable writing clear technical documentation and discussing requirements with engineering and wider team colleagues
  • Interest in deployment pipelines, database behaviour, and security engineering
  • Interest in product usage and willingness to incorporate analyst feedback into requirements discussions
  • Experience with Go-based microservices is desirable
  • Experience with Elasticsearch and/or PostgreSQL is desirable
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, infrastructure as code, and CI/CD pipelines is desirable
  • Experience with streaming or event-driven pipelines is desirable
  • Experience with feature flags and trunk-based development is desirable
  • Experience in defence, government, or other compliance-constrained software environments is desirable
