About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Defend claims made against EY, including professional malpractice claims, breach of contract claims, and securities class action litigation
- Actively manage and participate in litigation, mediations, arbitrations, and other civil proceedings
- Respond to subpoenas, inquiries, and investigations by regulators
- Handle all aspects of litigation, enforcement matters, investigations, and internal investigations
- Advise on cross-border matters and matters with significant financial or reputational impact
- Consult with partners and stakeholders on potential or threatened litigation to mitigate civil, criminal, or regulatory exposure
- Coordinate responses to regulatory subpoenas and preservation requests
- Advise on professional responsibility and risk management issues
- Formulate defense strategies and tactical decisions in potential or active litigation matters
- Work with outside counsel and manage outside counsel spend
- Conduct interviews of expert witnesses and current or former personnel
- Participate in mediations and settlement negotiations
- Prepare legal briefs, pleadings, discovery requests, and witnesses for testimony
- Develop and recommend EY policies and positions on legal issues
Requirements
What you’ll need- Significant experience as an attorney handling litigation, including trial and related experience
- Significant autonomy in making difficult and nuanced decisions involving litigation, criminal, and regulatory proceedings
- Exceptionally strong analytical abilities to synthesize facts and law
- Understanding of laws, rules, and regulations applicable to EY and its industry
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with all levels of EY personnel, including firm leaders and managing partners
- Ability to create, plan, and successfully execute projects
- Ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Exceptional interpersonal skills to manage outside counsel effectively
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited 4-year college; top of class preferred
- Law degree from a top law school; top of class preferred
- 6+ years of experience as a practicing attorney, preferably in a law firm or corporate legal department
- Active license as an attorney to practice law in the location where the resident EY office is located
- Strong negotiation and communication skills

- Ability to articulate and document complex legal and contractual principles
