About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Set the technical direction for complex machine learning and software projects
Balance trade-offs and guide team priorities
Architect, implement, and maintain reliable, scalable ML and software systems
Justify key architectural decisions
Define project problems, develop roadmaps, and oversee delivery across multiple workstreams
Lead delivery in ill-defined, high-risk environments
Drive development of shared organisational resources and libraries
Guide engineers contributing to shared resources and libraries
Lead hiring processes and make selection decisions
Mentor multiple individuals and foster team growth
Recommend and execute adoption of new technologies and tools
Improve ways of working to maintain competitiveness
Act as a technical expert and coach for customers
Estimate large workstreams and defend rationale to stakeholders

Requirements

What you’ll need

Technical expertise across machine learning and software engineering
Strong software engineering skills in Python
Proficiency in at least one compiled or strongly-typed language, such as Go, Java, Rust, or TypeScript
Ability to build robust, production-grade systems
Expert knowledge of at least one major cloud solution provider, such as Azure, GCP, or AWS
Experience leading teams to build full-stack web applications
Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes
Ability to manage and coach a team of engineers
Ability to set team-wide development goals
Ability to develop novel solutions and take ownership of project outcomes
Excellent communication skills with technical teams and non-technical stakeholders
Must address UK visa sponsorship requirements in the application
