About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Embed with practice groups and operational teams to observe work, identify daily decisions, and find bottlenecks
- Apply Human Centered Design methods including observation, interviews, and journey mapping
- Facilitate mapping sessions and create current- and future-state process maps, swim lane diagrams, and service blueprints using Miro or Lucid
- Apply Lean Six Sigma tools to remove rework, delays, and unnecessary steps
- Design ideal future-state workflows identifying opportunities for process change, automation, and AI
- Establish baseline metrics, build business cases, and measure results after launch
- Partner with engineering and AI teams to translate future-state designs into requirements
- Lead client engagements through the firm’s Design Lab
- Own planning, coordination, timelines, and quality standards for design engagements
- Document finalized processes through standard operating procedures, RACI charts, and named process owners
- Help hire, build, and mentor a small team of process designers
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Industrial Engineering, Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a related discipline, or equivalent years of professional experience
- At least five years of experience in business process improvement, service design, or operational excellence, gained in management consulting, professional services, or another complex, regulated environment
- Client-facing advisory experience, including facilitating senior stakeholders and presenting recommendations to executives
- Demonstrated experience leading process mapping, discovery sessions, stakeholder workshops, and design sprints
- Expert-level capability in Miro or Lucid (Lucidchart/Lucidspark)
- Working knowledge of Lean Six Sigma frameworks and tools, including DMAIC, SIPOC, value stream mapping, and root cause analysis
- Strong understanding of Human Centered Design, with hands-on experience applying contextual observation, user interviews, journey mapping, ideation, and rapid testing
- Ability to build business cases and measure results using operational data
- Ability to quickly learn unfamiliar areas of law and business operations and distill complex processes into clear, usable structures
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex research findings into actionable insights and recommendations
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, diplomacy, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively in a virtual environment
- Ability to work calmly and effectively in a high-pressure, deadline-oriented environment
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships in a collaborative, client-service-oriented environment
- Ability to use sound judgment and discretion with highly confidential information
- Ability to work independently, organize and prioritize work accurately, and be detail-oriented
- Formal Human Centered Design training or portfolio of HCD work preferred
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent certification preferred; Black Belt a plus
- Change management certification or equivalent consulting firm training preferred
- Management consulting experience in operations, transformation, or experience design preferred
- Experience in law firms or other professional services environments preferred
