About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own and prioritize the Matrix homeserver team's backlog
Balance new initiatives with operational and maintenance work, features, bugs and technical debt
Structure user stories and needs into epics and tasks with clear requirements
Balance solutions against Matrix protocol and TI-Messenger specifications
Steer delivery using agile methods
Refine tasks with the team and validate implementations
Own release planning and go-live readiness within the two-week release train
Align requests from sales, customers and engineering
Coordinate dependencies with product teams, infrastructure and support
Communicate decisions and trade-offs and escalate to PM or Head of Product when needed
Provide stakeholders with insights into plans and goals
Collaborate closely with engineers on Matrix homeserver technical trade-offs
Write clear and testable acceptance criteria and protect the team's focus
Use AI for specification analysis, writing stories and test cases

Requirements

What you’ll need

Proven experience as a Product Owner for a technical product, such as backend services, protocols or APIs
Solid understanding of Matrix or comparable federated communication systems, homeservers, end-to-end encryption and APIs
Experience working with specifications and in a regulated environment
Hands-on experience with Jira and agile methods
Clear communication with engineers and non-technical stakeholders
Fluent English and German language skills
Knowledge of the German telematics infrastructure (TI) or gematik specifications is nice to have
Candidates must reside in Germany or another EU/EEA country
