About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Draft and edit complex, sensitive, and routine letters, emails, and memoranda on behalf of OPO executive leadership
- Prepare formal responses to inquiries from congressional committees, Members of Congress, GAO, and other oversight entities
- Develop briefing materials for executive-level agency officials responding to information requests from media, press organizations, and internal or external stakeholders
- Review and triage incoming correspondence so urgent matters reach OPO executives for immediate attention
- Help establish standard operating procedures and tracking mechanisms that keep responses on time
- Maintain consistent and accurate communications across all channels in line with Departmental guidelines
- Fact-check and proofread every deliverable for grammatical accuracy
- Draft and turn around correspondence, memoranda, and briefing materials, typically within 2 business days of a request
- Update the Weekly Communication Log and Monthly Performance Report
- Contribute to the Correspondence Template Library
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree
- Four (4) years of demonstrated experience drafting executive-level correspondence
- US Citizenship
- Exceptional editing, proofreading, and fact-checking skills, with a portfolio of error-free work
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe PDF
- Ability to triage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines in a high-volume environment
- Ability to obtain a favorable DHS background suitability determination for a Public Trust position
- Experience communicating with or acting as consultant to executive-level members of the federal government, congressional bodies, or the GAO
- Previously held Public Trust position
- Working knowledge of Section 508 accessibility standards for electronic documents
