About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Manage day-to-day asphalt plant supervision and asphalt production
- Oversee the Asphalt Plant Supervisor Team to ensure safe and efficient production of aggregate and asphalt materials
- Lead, promote, and enforce safe work practices in compliance with OSHA/MSHA regulations
- Collaborate with safety managers, plant supervisors, maintenance supervisors, and field personnel to ensure a safe work environment
- Analyze project technical specifications, create asphalt mix designs, and develop operational BMPs
- Coordinate material testing during production and monitor test results to ensure materials meet specifications
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to maintain high quality standards
- Oversee approximately 3 plant supervisors, project coordinators, and 15 stationary and portable asphalt plant facilities with day/night operations
- Manage supply chain sourcing and purchasing to maximize quality, minimize cost, and deliver materials on time
- Prepare asphalt plant budgets and material pricing strategies
- Coordinate production demands, maintenance schedules, aggregate crushing/washing needs, personnel, equipment, and materials
- Direct and support plant personnel in developing and implementing operations plans
- Review plant-operation invoices, assign costs, and conduct monthly cost reviews
- Lead recruiting, candidate selection, onboarding, and training program development
- Collaborate with the land resources department to secure required permits
- Coordinate plant site work, inventory management, and site maintenance
- Oversee subcontractors at asphalt plant facilities
- Complete other projects related to asphalt plant operations
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must be safety oriented including detailed knowledge of the OSHA/MSHA regulations, compliance and inspection process
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil / Mechanical / Mining engineering or related field
- Five (5) or more years of experience in asphalt industry with knowledge of all aspects of day-to-day operations for asphalt production including safety, specifications, budgeting and cost management, permitting, production, maintenance, rolling stock equipment, and quality control
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
- Ability to travel locally and regionally
- Prior experience in planning, scheduling, and supervising production shifts (preferred)
- Prior experience in managing subcontractors (preferred)
- HCSS HeavyJob and HeavyBid software experience (preferred)
- AutoCAD or similar design software experience (preferred)
