About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead and grow the storefront engineering team, hiring and developing engineers as it scales
Own team delivery and sequence modernization work alongside the platform's scaling roadmap
Partner with senior technical owners on architecture and solution decisions
Drive resolution of production-scale and reliability issues during modernization
Scale the platform to support significantly more payments traffic reliably
Establish process and decisive execution for the engineering team
Hold regular 1:1s, provide direct feedback, and build the team's day-to-day operating rhythm
Use AI-assisted development tools to advance modernization

Requirements

What you’ll need

10+ years of overall experience
8+ years of hands-on technical experience
1+ years as a people manager with 3+ direct reports
Prior experience as an Engineering Manager on a production, revenue-critical platform
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
Experience modernizing a VM-based .NET system toward a cloud-native architecture
Experience scaling a production system to handle significantly higher transaction or traffic volume
Strong technical credibility, including codebase reading, backend architecture, system design trade-offs, and technical decision-making
Strong backend engineering fundamentals with a .NET / SQL Server-based stack, or ability to ramp quickly in one
Working knowledge of relational database design and operations, including SQL Server schema design, query-performance tuning, and production-scale locking behavior
Familiarity with running and debugging a production service in a cloud environment; Azure preferred
Demonstrated expertise in at least one programming language, ideally .NET, Java, or Python
Experience with at least one observability platform, such as Datadog, New Relic, Honeycomb, or comparable tools
Deep experience with automated testing frameworks
Proficiency with Claude Code, Codex, or comparable AI-assisted development tools
Comfort managing a remote team operating primarily within US business hours
Preferred: experience with .NET or Java, deep Azure experience, hands-on PCI-DSS compliance experience, payments or fintech experience, and legacy .NET modernization/scaling/migration experience
