About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Own significant messaging-path services end to end, including design, implementation, automated tests, monitoring, and production behavior
Improve fragile or poorly understood areas through test coverage, observability, technical-debt reduction, and documentation
Make message delivery observable, including what was sent, delivered, undelivered, and why
Contribute to incremental modernization with coexistence and rollback paths
Engage SRE during design and use provided tooling
Respond to incidents, restore service, and improve resilience through tests, alerts, or fixes
Estimate work and communicate technical and schedule risks early
Review designs and code and mentor less experienced engineers through the RFC process
Take responsibility for team quality and productivity beyond assigned work

Requirements

What you’ll need

Seven or more years building production backend software, including services that carried meaningful volume
Experience operating what you build, including instrumenting services, responding to incidents, and fixing services
Comfort working in an established, undocumented or partially documented codebase
Practical experience with asynchronous, queue-driven, or event-driven systems and failure modes, including retries, duplicates, backpressure, partial failure, and out-of-order delivery
Automated testing experience
Strong written communication in English
Track record of making progress across time zones
Based in India, with regular working overlap with colleagues in Europe and the United States
Permanent residency in India, with current and continued residency required for employment
Preferred: messaging, notification, or delivery infrastructure at scale
Preferred: managed cloud messaging and serverless building blocks on a major cloud provider
Preferred: Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code, and multi-cloud operations
Preferred: C or C++ alongside a higher-level language such as Python
Preferred: system instrumentation and alerting
Preferred: incremental modernization of running systems
Preferred: mentoring, code review, and improving shared technical practices
Preferred: fluency with AI-assisted development tools
Preferred: experience building software where failure has consequences
