About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Assess and manage applications from societies
  • Help deliver the Mutuals strategy through stakeholder engagement, project work, policy development and casework
  • Lead cases involving the use of discretionary statutory powers
  • Shape outcomes across the mutual societies sector, contributing to work impacting consumers and markets
  • Assess applications under multiple pieces of mutuals legislation and manage complex statutory cases
  • Lead meaningful casework, including exercising discretionary statutory powers and society cancellations
  • Engage closely with industry professionals, legal representatives and internal specialists
  • Conduct pre-application meetings with new and existing societies
  • Apply project management approaches to deliver a diverse portfolio of work
  • Work within the FCA's Mutuals Team, which performs registering-authority functions for mutual societies

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Proven experience of independently planning, prioritising and delivering a varied and demanding workload to agreed timescales and quality standards
  • Relevant experience of investigating complex issues and critically assessing and analysing information from multiple sources to reach sound, evidence-based decisions
  • Proven experience of communicating complex information clearly in writing and verbally, and building effective relationships with a range of stakeholders, including senior stakeholders
  • Ability to identify and evaluate key issues arising from complex or incomplete information, investigate matters thoroughly and exercise sound, proportionate judgement
  • Ability to communicate complex issues clearly and persuasively, adapting approach to influence stakeholders, provide constructive challenge and build effective relationships
  • Ability to organise and coordinate work effectively, deliver accurate, high-quality outputs, and manage competing priorities and dependencies
  • Ability to operate independently with appropriate escalation, remain effective under pressure, and adapt to changing priorities, feedback and challenge
  • Knowledge and understanding of the mutual societies sector and the environment in which mutual societies operate
  • Experience interpreting and implementing legislation, regulatory requirements or comparable formal frameworks
  • Experience using project management approaches to plan, coordinate and deliver work or change initiatives
  • Experience translating business requirements into practical process or system improvements
  • Experience contributing to policy development, including preparing guidance or other materials for external audiences
