About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Oversee one or more production teams in a manufacturing environment to meet internal and external customer requirements
  • Review, analyze, and make recommendations regarding safety, continuous improvement, employee performance, quality, expenses, and productivity
  • Interpret work orders, staffing, machine capabilities, and assign duties accordingly
  • Organize controls and audits to ensure quality products are produced efficiently
  • Assist with setting up new parts, training operators, troubleshooting equipment, and department operations
  • Drive collaboration and improvements through communication, teamwork, and KPIs
  • Support Lean Daily Management tools and 5S initiatives
  • Ensure department personnel receive appropriate training and orientation
  • Suggest changes to working conditions and equipment to improve efficiency
  • Analyze and resolve work problems or assist employees in resolving them
  • Develop and implement continuous improvement with employee performance in collaboration with HR
  • Partner with HR to enforce policies, procedures, and processes and hold direct reports accountable
  • Complete scheduling and execution of off-shift/lights-out production activities
  • Serve as production facilitator for all activities in the department or area
  • Act as a technical resource and troubleshoot process interruptions
  • Establish workmanship expectations for quality and productivity
  • Investigate nonconforming processes and take corrective action
  • Manage work assignments, performance and quality expectations, production problems, time records, training, and safe working conditions
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Operations to ensure compliance with manufacturing procedures
  • Review processes and departmental layout to optimize production costs and shop labor efficiency
  • Participate in hiring and develop employee training plans
  • Assess employee performance, resolve employee problems, investigate safety and quality incidents, and administer discipline within corporate guidelines
  • Arrive 30 minutes before shift start and remain 30 minutes after for shift hand-off

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Technical or Associates Degree in maintenance-related or machining-related field highly desired
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in leading teams in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience interacting with multiple groups of people and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to troubleshoot, problem-solve, and initiate innovative solutions to obtain successful outcomes
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong technology expertise; Proficient with Microsoft Excel
  • Bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Engineering or related field preferred
  • Experience working in a machining or fabrication manufacturing environment preferred
  • Ability to read a tape measure
  • Ability to read check sheets
  • Ability to use special micrometers and gauges
  • Ability to work safely and efficiently
  • Ability to work with close tolerances
  • Some travel to each business unit (.5 miles away from each other) for training purposes
  • Occasionally may have to lift to 35lbs
  • Time will be spent sitting in front of a computer screen
  • Spending 80% of your time on the production floor
  • Ability to work in a loud manufacturing environment
