About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own the end-to-end architecture of the mobile SDK
- Design a unified architecture that keeps the underlying mapping and rendering layer private and replaceable
- Implement core navigation logic including turn-by-turn guidance, route snapping, off-route detection, rerouting, ETA, and trip state
- Design idiomatic, thread-safe public APIs that hide internal implementation details
- Create reference documentation, integration guides, migration notes, and working sample applications
- Improve location quality through sensor fusion across GPS, accelerometer, and gyroscope
- Optimize battery, memory, tile caching, and thermal behavior during long navigation sessions
- Implement background location and audio modes for guidance when applications are backgrounded
- Support multilingual voice guidance including Arabic and right-to-left map labeling
- Own binary packaging and versioning across private gated and public distribution channels
- Establish unit, integration, and device testing with simulated location and recorded route replay
- Set architecture and engineering standards while remaining hands-on
- Work alongside routing, search, and tile teams
- Report directly to the Founder and CEO
- Grow and lead the mobile team as the SDK matures
Requirements
What you’ll need- 10 or more years building mobile software, a substantial part of it on iOS
- Expert Swift, with deep command of concurrency, background modes, application lifecycle, permissions, memory and power behavior
- Proven experience building and maintaining an SDK or library consumed by developers outside your own company
- Understanding of semantic versioning, backward compatibility, module stability, and breaking changes
- Advanced production experience with a major map or navigation SDK, such as Mapbox, MapLibre, Google Maps SDK, or equivalent
- System design ability at the boundary between a complex internal engine and a simple public surface
- Ability to write documentation as part of the deliverable
- Self-direction and judgment
- Working proficiency in Kotlin and Android is a strong advantage
- Knowledge of vector tiles, Metal or OpenGL rendering behavior, GeoJSON, Mercator, and WGS84 is a strong advantage
- Knowledge of computational geometry, including bearings, distances, line snapping, and polygon intersection, is a strong advantage
- Kotlin Multiplatform or shared core experience is a strong advantage
- Offline-first behavior with large local map datasets is a strong advantage
- CarPlay or embedded automotive delivery experience is a strong advantage
- Arabic language products or right-to-left interface experience is a strong advantage
- Experience growing and leading a small engineering team is a strong advantage
