About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Supervise Legal Assistants and other administrative staff in the Adult Program
- Coordinate meetings, provide critical feedback, and evaluate staff performance and policy compliance
- Lead hiring and training processes for new Legal Assistants and similar positions
- Participate in hiring committees, coordinate onboarding, and create and lead training
- Oversee quality of client services, including Know Your Rights presentations, workshops, legal intakes, and direct representation
- Provide leadership and oversight for programmatic client-management needs
- Mentor and support supervised staff in client services
- Oversee drive management systems, case management systems, databases, and other administrative systems
- Maintain an assigned caseload to assist Staff Attorneys
- Lead Legal Assistant meetings, working groups, and special projects
- Coordinate mail and operations systems with the Adult Program Managerial Team and Operations Team
- Participate in program development, attend managerial team meetings, and manage stakeholder relationships
- Support outreach and development activities and ad hoc projects
- Perform assigned data entry and administrative duties
- Work across pro se, direct representation, trafficking, Children’s Legal Program, and Advocacy Team matters as organizational needs require
- Report directly to the Adult Legal Program Manager or Associate Adult Legal Program Manager
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's Degree preferred; a combination of relevant experience and education can be considered
- Two years of relevant professional experience required
- Ability to work with diverse and vulnerable populations
- Must be comfortable working with people with criminal convictions
- Fluency or advanced proficiency in Spanish
- Strong leadership skills
- Strong interest in immigration issues
- Interest in advocating for indigent immigrant clients in a respectful and empowering way
- Commitment to the Florence Project’s mission
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and client-centered work environment
- Ability to work in a high-volume setting with limited resources
- Ability to work independently and adapt reliably in conflict, pressure, crisis, or changing priorities

- Mentoring experience highly desired
- One year of supervisory experience preferred
- Prior experience with immigration law, family law, working with teenagers, and/or survivors of trauma is a plus
- Prior experience working in a unionized workplace is a plus
- Prior Legal Assistant experience at the Florence Project preferred
- Ability to sit for long periods with intermittent walking, standing, bending, squatting, pulling, and pushing
- Ability to use standard office equipment
- Ability to lift up to ten pounds
- Requires regular travel between offices and secondary work locations
- Active employees must be fully vaccinated under the mandatory COVID-19 vaccine policy, with medical or religious exemptions available
