About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Collect, process, test, and analyze patient specimens
- Send specimens to reference laboratories for testing not performed in-house
- Maintain accessioning, test report, quality control, equipment, and checklist documentation
- Chart patient results and update daily paperwork, lab logs, and maintenance logs
- Perform in-house laboratory testing and process incoming results for charting
- Use and maintain laboratory equipment and work areas
- Maintain adequate inventory and verify supplies before patient testing
- Perform patient assessments, including chief complaint, medication reconciliation, and pertinent history, in the ONCO EMR
- Perform blood draws and follow specimen handling and processing procedures
- Obtain vital signs, PHQ9 and pain scores, and document accurately in the EMR
- Room patients according to office procedures
- Prepare blood and bone marrow slides
- Assist with medical procedures as required
- Complete required annual CEUs to meet C.O.L.A. requirements
- Comply with regulatory standards, company policies, IT procedures, and disaster recovery plans
- Maintain patient information confidentiality
- Perform additional tasks to support the team
- Work under the direct supervision of the Office Manager
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma or GED
- BLS required upon hire or must be obtained within 30 days of employment
- Valid Medical Assistant Certification required from an approved board, including AAMA, NHA, NCCT, AMT, NAHP, American Allied Health, or American Medical Certification Association
- A minimum of six months of active experience in a Medical Assistant role within the practice
- Strong interpersonal skills, including effective verbal and written communication
- Superior customer service skills
- Solid time management and ability to prioritize multiple tasks
- Ability to collaborate closely with Physicians and Nurses
- Must comply with Federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to patient care, patients’ rights, safety, billing, and collections
- Must maintain patient confidentiality
- Background, drug, and nicotine screening required
- New hires subject to required vaccinations, including influenza vaccine, barring an approved exemption
