- Write the internal grid code for generators, BESS, inverters, transformers, and ITRs
- Own conformance evidence before equipment ships
- Own technical content of generation and electrical equipment specifications and technical bid evaluations
- Deliver v0.1 specifications to vendors before the first major RFP
- Build the model of record and own the study register
- Produce generation, BESS, and reserve sizing plus load flow, short circuit, and transient stability results
- Accept or reject vendor and EPC studies against the model
- Set stability and protection philosophy, including largest-unit loss contingency, reserve policy, and load shedding
- Negotiate load behaviour specifications with the compute team
- Own phasing rules for safe energization at intermediate build states
- Set the prioritized study roadmap for long-lead procurement
- Visit sites to validate construction and operation
- Incorporate commissioning findings and installer workarounds into future design revisions
- Hire protection/HV substation, studies/EMT, and operations specialists

- Experience designing around grid-forming inverter control and inverter-dominated protection
- Personally owned a system design basis enforced with vendors
- Experience rejecting vendor or EPC studies that did not meet requirements
- Experience handling a major island outage and explaining its cause
- Set standards that OEMs and EPCs comply with, including GE, Caterpillar, Tesla, or equivalents
- Designed systems built repeatedly at scale
- Field experience with installers and operators
- Bonus: ERCOT market and interconnection dynamics
- Bonus: GW-scale HV substation design at 230kV and above
- Bonus: Professional Engineer licence
