About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform 3D CFD and thermal analysis of vehicle AHSS (Air Handling Sub-System) components during product development
  • Optimize vehicle ductwork, registers, cowl intake, extraction path, and HVAC unit for energy efficiency and human comfort
  • Apply advanced 3D thermal/fluid modeling techniques
  • Conduct physical testing to enhance model correlation and predictability
  • Interface with outside vendors to explore and validate new modeling technology
  • Communicate simulation results across Design Studio, Body Interior & Exterior, Thermal Systems, Program Teams, and Vehicle Architecture
  • Support updates to requirements, specifications, and core quality documents based on modeling lessons learned
  • Work with teams to develop new technologies related to interior airflow systems

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 2 years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation
  • 2 years of experience utilizing CFD pre-processing software to mesh and prepare CAD geometry, including ANSA or T-Grid
  • 2 years of experience utilizing CFD software including Fluent, OpenFOAM or Star CCM+ to execute and perform CFD analysis
  • 2 years of experience utilizing CFD post-processing software to analyze simulation results and draw data-driven conclusions
  • 2 years of experience modeling heat transfer physics and understanding 3D conjugate heat transfer challenges
  • 2 years of experience compiling and clearly communicating engineering data to a wide audience, including non-engineers
  • 1 year of experience using CFD to model water-management features within constrained geometry
  • 1 year of experience correlating CFD data to physical test data and identifying acceptable margins of error
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Must live within a reasonable commuting distance from the Dearborn, Michigan worksite
