About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Build vehicle and subsystem models including chassis, controls, aero, tire, damper, and powertrain systems for static and dynamic analyses
- Develop MBD or lumped-parameter models for offline, lap-time simulation, or DiL use
- Work with Vehicle Dynamics, VEME, Chassis, VE, and Racing teams to define test methods, collect and analyze data, and develop well-correlated models
- Develop and document best practices for building correlated models for vehicle development
- Help create vehicle dynamics pre-program targets that define products and ensure program success
- Collaborate with Vehicle Dynamics and Program teams to set targets, cascade them to subsystems, and establish engineering roadmaps evaluated through CAE analyses
- Refine target-setting and definition processes for Ford Racing across production and racing vehicles
- Apply systems optimization tools, including DOE, regression analyses, tool creation, FEA topology, and multidisciplinary optimization tools
- Develop CAE optimization and automation processes for Ford Racing products
- Identify opportunities to apply AI/ML to analytical methods, test data, and correlation
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Systems Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline
- 10 years of professional experience in automotive CAE, including MBD, NVH, FEA, or CFD
- Experience with ADAMS, MotionView/Solve, CarSim, MatLab/Simulink, DOE optimization tools such as HEEDS and Hyperstudy, and DiL systems
- Experience and knowledge of vehicle test methods such as K&C, flat track tire testing for tire model creation, industry-standard vehicle dynamics tests, and component testing
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Systems Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline (preferred)
- Expertise in project management methodologies and leading complex, multi-disciplinary analytical simulation projects
- Ability to collaborate across global, multicultural engineering teams and present complex technical data to senior leadership
- Understanding of suspension, steering, driveline, and transmission component physics
- Familiarity with CAE solvers such as Abaqus, Nastran, Ansys, Adams, and Star-CCM+
- Familiarity with CAD/PLM environments
- Experience managing or directing work packages executed by global engineering service providers or offshore/LCC technical centers
- Vehicle testing and development experience; high-performance driving background including OE vehicle certification, racing, and hands-on instrumented testing highly desired
