About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support implementation of FAST and OMS standards and alignment with the global Bill of Process and Bill of Design
- Own and administer controls procedures and specifications for Sight products
- Review programme deviations and waiver requests and guide compliant solutions
- Define standard controls interface patterns for Sense and Vision products
- Specify controls and instrumentation requirements for new and retooled equipment
- Provide senior controls expertise for complex or first-of-type deployments
- Review electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic drawings and participate in equipment reviews and sign-off
- Lead controls issue resolution during product launch, installation and commissioning
- Lead and support virtual commissioning of controls software
- Enable plant-floor data flows using MES/IIoT interfaces, MQTT, JSON and industrial middleware
- Support OT cybersecurity compliance for plant-floor PCs, edge compute and GPU inference nodes
- Implement and govern hardening, patching, network segregation, remote access and identity controls
- Support controls obsolescence, reusable programmes, function blocks, templates and acceptance criteria
- Troubleshoot PLC, HMI, network and device faults causing production downtime
- Coach launch, deployment and software engineers and document reusable technical guidance
- Bring plant and controls considerations into product discovery and architecture decisions
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Electronic, Controls, Automation or Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent demonstrable experience
- Typically 8+ years of hands-on industrial controls engineering experience in manufacturing, including delivery on capital equipment programmes
- Strong PLC programming and diagnostic capability across Siemens TIA Portal/S7, Rockwell/Allen-Bradley Studio 5000, or equivalent
- HMI and SCADA experience
- Hands-on experience integrating machine vision or camera-based inspection systems with controls
- Knowledge of Profinet, Ethernet/IP, OPC-UA, Modbus and plant network architecture
- Experience using MQTT and JSON, and configuring industrial middleware or integration tooling such as DeviceWise, Node-RED, Ford crossPLC or HiveMQ
- Ability to read, review and approve electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic drawings and control panel designs
- Experience with machine build, run-off, installation and commissioning
- Experience applying, governing or authoring engineering standards and specifications, including deviation and waiver decisions
- Working knowledge of OT cybersecurity for Windows- and Linux-based plant-floor systems
- Safety discipline on live manufacturing equipment, including lockout (ECPL), permits, risk assessment and machine safety requirements
- Experience mentoring engineers and influencing stakeholders across engineering, plant, IT and suppliers
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally to plants, OEMs and equipment run-off
- Fluent professional English
