About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Provide legal advice and opinions on day-to-day matters across entities, departments, and functions in ASEAN and Direct Markets in the International Market Group
Manage ongoing and new litigation matters across ASEAN/APDM, including supplier and labor litigation and the class action lawsuit in Thailand
Draft, review, and negotiate legal and commercial contracts, letters, marketing materials, loan agreements, and other financial agreements
Support labor advisory matters, HR teams, and union negotiations
Advise finance and treasury teams
Support compliance officers and monitor regulatory compliance across ASEAN markets
Manage licenses for Ford and joint-venture entities in Thailand, including permit applications and compliance reporting
Liaise with Ford representatives, Thai government authorities, global teams, and outside counsel
Support Senior Counsel with complex legal transactions, legal advice validation, legal training, newsletters, and internal communications
Translate internal legal documents between Thai and English
Act as regional point of contact for Data Protection across ASEAN & APDM, including Thailand, Philippines, and South Korea
Support the Global Data Privacy team on regional initiatives
Monitor and advise on emerging Data Protection laws and regulatory changes
Build a proactive Data Protection compliance capability through policies, training, and stakeholder advisory support
Assess Data Protection risk, support data protection impact assessments, and advise on data handling, cross-border transfers, and incident response
Report directly to Senior Counsel

Requirements

What you’ll need

Experience practicing law in an international law firm or internal company legal department
Demonstrated experience in Data Protection/Privacy law and regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions
Regional legal management experience preferred
Prior experience advising on Data Protection/Privacy laws, such as PDPA and equivalent regional data privacy regulations, strongly preferred
Certification in data privacy, such as CIPP/A or equivalent, is a plus
Negotiation, presentation, law firm management, and regulatory monitoring/analysis skills
Integrity, transparency, service mindset, team-player mindset, and ability to build a new function independently
Microsoft Office skills
Proficient English skills
Strong working knowledge of Data Protection/Privacy laws and frameworks across ASEAN & APDM
Working knowledge of AI governance frameworks and regulations, including practical use of AI tools/technologies
Able to travel and work under pressure
Able to prioritize work to meet stretch deadlines
Able to develop legal expertise in Data Protection and AI Governance, as well as legal support for distribution, marketing, sales, HR, compliance, and global litigation management teams
