About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide manufacturing engineering leadership throughout a new model development program through Ok to Buy + 45 days
- Implement new or modified tooling and facilities based on product and process changes
- Lead manufacturing assembly builds in Canada, Mexico, and US assembly plants
- Identify and drive resolution of manufacturing-related issues
- Collaborate with multifunctional teams including PD, STA, MP&L, NMP, and MTDC
- Write, modify, and maintain process sheets after Final Design Judgement
- Write tooling design, build, and installation scopes of work
- Lead assembly tooling installation, start-up, and commissioning at assembly sites
- Support tooling design and buy-off at vendor facilities
- Drive quality, cost, and labor improvements
- Develop plant layouts and drive cycle line layouts
- Lead/manage VME areas for upfront feasibility during GPDS phases
- Prepare and lead management presentations through Ok to Buy
- Support Program Cost Study responses and cross-functional alignment
- Support resolution of major architecture and high-investment plant issues to mitigate launch risks
- Document and present lessons learned to create or update manufacturing standards
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- 3 years of experience in the job offered or a related occupation
- 3 years of experience designing and implementing tooling, process, and facilities changes for new product implementation in automotive industry facilities
- 3 years of experience leveraging statistics, including control charts and data collection, to validate and monitor new product and process performance
- 3 years of experience using AutoCAD for production line layout changes
- 3 years of experience with error-proofing techniques, including Poke-Yoke, fixtures, cameras, and scanners
- 3 years of experience using program management techniques, including Gantt charts, critical path assessment, or master schedules
- 3 years of experience with problem-solving techniques, including 6-Sigma and Global 8D
- 3 years of experience using Team Center, SolidWorks, CATIA, or CAD
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
- Ability to live within a reasonable commuting distance of the Dearborn worksite
- Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 90%
