About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, develop, validate, and release parts under responsibility for assigned programs
  • Improve designs to increase quality and optimize cost and weight
  • Ensure parts comply with corporate and local validation requirements, WCR, engineering specifications, systems design specifications, manufacturing requirements, and assembly requirements
  • Manage product release CAD and BOM structures, including assembly positioning and mass attribute analysis
  • Facilitate supplier data integration and develop CAD studies to drive design improvements
  • Comply with program cost, weight, quality, performance, and timing targets
  • Create plans within the Global Product Development System to deliver on time
  • Apply robustness engineering disciplines, Six Sigma, and 8D methods
  • Develop engineering statements of work and engineering concepts; participate in sourcing processes
  • Develop design validation and production verification plans and manage validation testing
  • Participate in technical design reviews
  • Release parts in FEDEBOM and WERS throughout the product lifecycle
  • Audit and update bills of material for prototype builds and maintain them after Job 1
  • Identify required validation, durability, and functional testing
  • Perform root-cause analysis and implement permanent actions
  • Define and verify engineering prototype requirements
  • Implement and sign off parts at the assembly plant and assist with quality issues
  • Support VQRs, VRTs, and PVT as required
  • Collaborate with Supplier Technical Assistance through the Supplier Engagement Process

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ years of familiarity with engine air and exhaust components, materials, and their manufacturing processes is desired
  • Strong problem-solving skills for complex issues using a data-driven approach
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Broad exposure to various material types (both steel and plastics)
  • Ability to work in a fluid environment when overall vehicle targets, size, appearance, and manufacturing location are not always known
  • Microsoft Office experience
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • 8D and 5Why corrective action and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with Catia V5 required
  • 3DX / Catia V6 and Ford Team Center preferred
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Visa sponsorship is not available
