About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design and release dynamic sealing systems meeting cost, quality, weight, and delivery targets
  • Apply DFMEA, DFM, DVP&R, CAE/FEA, SCCAF, SC/CC, 8D, root cause analysis, product development, and testing methods
  • Conduct seal gap analysis, door closing effort contribution analysis, wind noise, dust ingress, and water management testing
  • Develop ESOW and engineering concepts and participate in sourcing processes
  • Resolve issues involving interfacing components
  • Lead design reviews with sealing suppliers and ensure system design specifications are created and met
  • Lead FMA creation and engineering documentation, including DFMEA and SCCAF
  • Sign off eCAD drawings with GD&T and DVP&R tests
  • Ensure AVBOM, cost targets, and design gaps have validated roadmaps
  • Release parts in AVBOM, Change Control, and WERS throughout the product life cycle
  • Achieve DPA, P-Release, FDJ/FEC/PEC, and build-event milestones on time
  • Audit and update BOMs for prototype builds and maintain them after Job 1
  • Support current production issues, cost reduction, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Work with cross-functional Ford teams and suppliers to meet program milestones and cost targets
  • Provide launch support and travel as required

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • BSME, Applications / Design / or degree equivalent in experience
  • 3-5 years of experience minimum with elastomers (rubber/plastic), material specification and selection, weather sealing systems, vehicle integration, and build variation process
  • In-depth experience in product design and analytical skills related to sealing energy and manufacturing processes for weather seals, extrusion and injection molding
  • Working knowledge of significant and critical characteristics (SC/CCs) associated with dynamic seal product requirements and manufacturing processes
  • Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
  • Proficient with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Internet, CATIA v6/3DX, and Teamcenter
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Proactivity and ability to escalate emerging issues
  • Launch support and some travel required
  • Ability to work independently in a complex product development environment
  • Ability to manage daily activities of the supply base
  • Ability to work with Ford Program Management, Cost Estimating, Engineering, Materials, Manufacturing, Quality, and Purchasing
  • Ability to work under compressed timing constraints
  • Manufacturing Engineering in the Weather Sealing Industry preferred
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
