About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own development, sign-off and maintenance of foundational Body Structures engineering decisions, including upper and lower structures, systems integration and load paths
- Lead total system integration to meet Ford Racing DNA and vehicle targets
- Guide and mentor engineers and SMEs
- Lead Full-Service Suppliers and internal and external resources to deliver Ford Racing programs
- Lead innovative designs using CAE, generative design tools and competitive benchmarking
- Partner with CAE to refine simulation and correlation methods
- Develop novel construction and joining techniques through production feasibility
- Create component and subsystem design verification plans and test methods
- Optimize designs through analytical and physical assessment to meet impact, NVH, durability, torsional stiffness and regulatory targets
- Partner with design studio, Vehicle Architecture, Advanced Engineering, Manufacturing and plants to confirm BIW fit and dimensional capability
- Present concepts and program status to senior management
Requirements
What you’ll need- B.S. in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or a related physical science field, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
- 10+ years of experience as a Body Design and Release Engineer or similar
- 6+ years specific to Body Structures and/or exterior structural components, including stampings, panels and joining
- Expert knowledge of the product and supply base, including stampings, assembly, extrusions, castings, joining and regulatory requirements
- Expert knowledge of BIW attribute delivery, including Safety, Durability, Corrosion, NVH and TASE
- Experience in all program phases from pre-program through launch, including one major scale 4–6 program
- Working knowledge of Design, Analysis, Verification, Quality, Manufacturing and Assembly methods
- Working knowledge of engineering toolset including FEDE, CAE/CATIA, TCE and 3DX
- Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to teach, coach and mentor
- Ability to work with little oversight
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
