About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Perform linear and non-linear strength and fatigue assessments for transmission architectures and drivelines, including cast housings, shafts, and rotating parts
  • Conduct structural analyses of gears, splines, bearings, differentials, clutches, and other components and sub-assemblies
  • Run large Design of Experiments (DOE) CAE studies and provide program design alternatives
  • Optimize structural performance, mass, and cost using topology, gauge, and shape optimization tools
  • Apply Python or TCL scripting to automate CAE pre- and post-processing tasks
  • Support development of CAD/CAE engineering standards and methods
  • Partner with Design & Release Engineers on cross-functional issue resolution and architecture evaluation
  • Create CAE engineering status reports and technical-management presentations
  • Verify completeness of structural assessments
  • Provide technical direction, mentor support staff, and independently manage large-scale analyses for advanced/experienced engineers

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • 2 to 5+ years of automotive product development experience, specifically focused on durability and structural analysis of suspension architectures or steering components (for experienced candidates)
  • Foundational knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA), solid mechanics, and fatigue principles
  • Experience with Abaqus and OptiStruct or equivalent; hands-on experience with Abaqus/Standard or OptiStruct
  • Familiarity with CAE pre- and post-processing and meshing tools such as HyperWorks, ANSA, SimLab, or equivalent
  • Knowledge of non-linear material modeling, including hyperelastic rubber materials
  • Experience with fatigue life evaluation software such as nCode DesignLife, FEMFAT, or fe-safe
  • Experience with optimization and DOE tools such as OptiStruct, Tosca Structure, ModeFRONTIER, or HEEDS
  • Proficiency with CATIA V5/V6, 3DX, NX, SolidWorks, Teamcenter, and Vismockup
  • Ability to develop 3D CAD design concepts and alternatives
  • Ability to create and manage assemblies, drawings, motion files, CAD data, and vehicle environments with system interfaces
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
